Directions from Tucson to the Winer Observatory

(Hint:  Find and stay on Arizona State Route 83, which bounds our property)

From Tucson, take I-10 east about 20 miles to Exit 281, which is marked "State Route 83 Sonoita/Patagonia". Take this exit and take Route 83 south about 25 miles. The first 8 miles is fairly straight, the next 8 is curvy and go over a mountain pass, and the final 9 miles are fairly straight but go up and down some small hills. The vegetation will change from desert cactus near I-10 to grasslands on the other side of the mountain pass. Sonoita is at the crossroads of State Routes 82 and 83.

Go straight through the intersection, past the Shell station on your left, past the fairgrounds on your right, and go around the bend to your left staying on State Route 83, following the sign for Parker Canyon Lake. Go three miles, staying on the paved road of State Route 83. Every mile along the road is marked by a small green sign off to the right of the road. At Mile Post 28, go another 100 feet and make a left turn onto the dirt road marked by the Milky Way street sign. If you encounter a road and an elementary school on the left, you have gone too far. Turn around, and come back about a half mile.

When you are on the Milky Way dirt road, go 1/4 mile, then turn right and go up the paved driveway to the gray stucco house on the hill.
